The NYC Health Department (DOHMH) works to protect and promote the health of all New Yorkers. Unfortunately, differences in neighborhood resources have led to unfair health outcomes, with some New Yorkers living longer, healthier lives than others. Structural racism contributes to the disproportionate burden of disease, including COVID-19, in some communities. Learn where you can find and how you can use health data to advocate for health equity in your community.

We will demonstrate how to access and use data from health surveys, disease registries, vital statistics, and more.

Presenters:
Ariel Charney, Researcher/Analyst, NYC DOHMH;
Martha Alexander, Data Communications Outreach Analyst, NYC DOHMH;
Matthew Montesano, Data Visualization Specialist, NYC DOHMH;
Regina Zimmerman, Director, Data Governance and Informatics, NYC DOHMH
