What is NYC Open Data?

NYC Open Data is a website that offers more than 3,000 datasets published by different City agencies for free for anyone to use. See it for yourself: nyc.gov/opendata. We also have a nifty video that explains Open Data! https://youtu.be/l4undH4y0Ws.

What is Open Data Week?

Open Data Week 2022 is a week-long festival, conference, and exhibition celebrating New York City and the free, public data that the city publishes on NYC Open Data. Open Data Week 2022 will begin on Saturday, March 5 and end on Sunday, March 13. Open Data Week is organized and produced by the NYC Open Data Program, BetaNYC, and the Data Through Design collective.

What is NYC School of Data?

Historically, NYC School of Data is a community technology conference that demystifies complex ideas and fosters local civic engagement. This community-driven conference is organized by BetaNYC – NYC’s civic technology, data, and design community. While the pandemic put our in-person gathering on pause last year, this March, we are bringing [a version of] it back! Learn more about it at schoolofdata.nyc.

What types of organizations or companies are involved?

Open Data Week organizers and participants come from many different sectors, including academia, non-profit organizations, private companies, civic tech organizations, think tanks, tech incubators, thought leaders, and NYC agencies. Discover past partners of Open Data Week in 2021 and 2020.

What types of events happen during Open Data Week?

The Open Data Week program offers an inspiring week of in-person and virtual events for anyone to organize and for anyone to attend. This year’s programmatic content centers NYC Open Data and/or publicly available open data pertaining to NYC. Engagements span many formats including:

Where is Open Data Week 2022?

Open Data Week 2022 will be hosted by organizers across the five boroughs of NYC. In addition, some event organizers will be hosting virtual events that participants can join virtually online.

Are all events open to the public?

It’s not a requirement for events to be open to the public, but in the spirit of Open Data, we encourage events to be available to anyone.
